To stay abreast with Blackboard's latest technology and enhance teaching and learning, Bloomfield College will upgrade to Blackboard’s Next Generation platform – Blackboard Learn Release 9.1 -- this summer. Blackboard Learn includes many exciting new innovations through a new set of social learning and teaching tools. It also offers a more intuitive and easy-to-use user interface.
In Release 9.1, Blackboard has refined the tools that support teaching, enabling instructors to minimize the time they spend on course building and delivery tasks, freeing up their time and energy to focus on student success, achievement, and retention
Given the time required to set up this new system and for faculty to learn and integrate Blackboard 9’s new features into courses, we have planned a phased transition. This means that both Blackboard 9.1 and 8 both will be available for the entire 2011-2012 academic year so that you can transition to Blackboard 9.1 when you are ready to do so. Blackboard 8 will be phased out at the end of the spring 2012 semester. It is recommended that you switch to Blackboard 9.1 as early as possible to take advantage of the new features in Blackboard 9.1.
Due to the significant changes between Blackboard 9.1 and Blackboard 8, it is strongly recommended that faculty and staff who use Blackboard attend the upcoming training programs on Blackboard 9.1 that will be offered in June, July, and August.
Blackboard 9.1 upgrade timeline as follows:
- June 29, 2011 - Blackboard 9.1 Test Server will be ready for faculty to preview
- August 1, 2011 - Blackboard 9.1 official course site goes live, faculty will have access to course shells for coruses in fall semester, Accelerated Fall I and II. Students will be able to access Blackboard 9.1.
- May 15, 2012 - Transition into Blackboard 9.1.
